SARE offers competitive research grants that support sustainable agriculture, with each grant benefitting specific audiences. SARE grants are available to:

2024 Grants
Research and Education Grants
SSARE encourages applications for the Research and Education program that focus on resilience to climate change. Projects that explore the social, economic, and environmental issues are encouraged, including climate mitigation strategies, interventions for farmers, ethical issues, consumer behavior, renewable energy, and branding

Food Loss and Waste (FLW) Training and Technical Assistance (T&TA) Grants Program
Southern SARE is soliciting a national Call for Proposals for the CFP Food Loss and
Waste Training and Technical Assistance Grants. The purpose of the project is to
implement outreach, training and technical assistance efforts to build capacity for food loss and waste initiatives.- Call for pre-proposals released April 2024
- Proposals are due by noon EST June 28, 2024
- Winning proposals announced August 2024
- Projects will start September 1, 2024

Professional Development Program Grants
The Southern Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Professional Development Program (PDP) is requesting pre-proposals for projects of one to two year(s) duration that provide training on sustainable agriculture for agricultural professionals, educators, and mentor farmers* who serve farmers and other interested people in USDA’s Southern Region.

Graduate Student Grants
Do you have an idea for your thesis or doctoral research that involves the social, ecological, or farming aspects of food production in Florida? You can receive up to $22,000 for a two-year project. SARE does fund proposals that address social issues, especially issues that affect the quality of life of farmers and the people who live in farm communities.
